Hello all! I was pursuing the catalog at my library and stumbled upon a series called ‘Petshop of Horrors’ that while it is something I would never usually go for I was interested and decided to pick it up. I thought it might be fun to do a short little review on this volume of the series. Maybe on the rest of them if that is something you might be interested in. Let me know!
Set in the Chinatown of LA, a mysterious but on the surface seemingly normal petshop caters to all who enter. But behind the curtain, the pet shop houses the most exotic creatures with the most particular conditions and a contract to sign. And if you break the contract… bad things will happen.
I really like that each chapter is a stand-alone story on what happens when people break these contracts. It is a horror manga so it is a little spooky and dark. And it is like just enough of spook and dark for me to love it. There are a few characters that are seen throughout. Like D and the ever-persistent detective Leon Orcot who is convinced that D is into something dangerous and involved in the crimes that occur because of the broken contracts.
You never really know what is going to happen or what consequences are going to come from a broken contract. I enjoy D’s personality and his obsession with tea and sweets. It’s those small little details that make it all that much more interesting.
I can’t wait to see what happens next! If you’d like me to continue this type of quick review on a manga series, let me know in the comments below.
