a few of my favorite: anime/ manga edition

Hello all!

I have previously talked about specific genres of anime and my thoughts on them. I’ve covered sports, romance, and slice of life animes. And for today, instead of doing another genre, I thought I would pick a few of my all-time favorite animes and talk about those. I want to mainly talk about the anime versions of these but will probably bring up the mangas as well.

I have been reading manga and watching anime since like 2010 and have watched quite a few different shows. Some I only watched a couple episodes, others I have consumed tirelessly. Only recently have I been able to watch animes from discs or read from a print source. Before it was almost entirely online. However, one of the first-ever animes I watched was on Adult Swim at like 2 in the morning. It was Inuyasha and it is one of my all-time favorites.

Animes:

Inuyasha

My first anime! Well, what I consider to be my first anime experience. Also known as “Inuyasha: A Feudal Fairy Tale”, this anime ran from October 2000 to September 2004 with a total of 167 episodes. And that is not including the additional 26 episodes of “Inuyasha: The Final Act” or the 4 movies. This is one of the longest anime’s I ever watched. And the manga alone was 56 volumes.

What I like about this series:

The characters. I love the relationships that develop between the characters. Inuyasha and Kagome, Songo, and Miroku. This anime has to have some of the best relationships, from the first meeting to growing feelings to rising conflicts to anything. I just think it did a really good job. Plus I still giggle at ‘Sit, boy’. Now, I will admit there were some times I wanted to smack one of them with a brick. They got annoying, but everyone gets annoying. I think I would have been more upset and bored with the show if I never found a fault in them. Even the side characters were amazing. Sesshomaru is my favorite. The end.

The plot. I never got bored with the storylines. The filler episodes didn’t really feel like filler episodes. They were a part of the story that only helped push the plot further. And I never got annoyed or like frustrated by them.

I never did end up reading the manga for Inuyasha. I’m not sure why but I just never got around to it. I think it is easier to go from manga to anime than it is to go from anime to manga.

Black Butler

I think everyone has at least heard of “Black Butler”. If you haven’t… then you probably don’t watch anime or read the manga. Which is totally fine! We don’t hate or dislike things like that on this blog. “Black Butler” is one that I have both read the manga and watched the anime. The anime has 36 episodes, 7 OVAs, and 3 movies. The manga is currently at 29 volumes.

What I live about this series:

I’ll be totally honest, I didn’t really like the first season of the anime. It was… ugh. But the later seasons were so much better. And I love the manga series. Compared to Inuyasha, Black Butler is a lot heavier and darker and it was like my first real taste of a darker anime. It wasn’t too much and it wasn’t like a joke. It was a really good start in my opinion. And I don’t really know what I love this one so much… Okay, maybe I do. Maybe it’s Sabastian, maybe it’s the Undertaker… maybe. Who knows.

I like how obnoxious and snobby Ciel is and how he does act like he is so much better than anyone else. I find it highly amusing. And I think the story itself is very interesting and fun. It’s different then what I am used to seeing or reading and I just enjoy it.

Fairy Tail

I can’t remember how I stumbled upon this one. I don’t know if it was just recommended to me by someone or I found it on some random list. But what I’ve learned about this one is that you either love it or you hate it. Which I get. It happens a lot. But I love it. I am really behind and need to play major catch up. You know how I said Inuyasha was the longest anime I ever watched… Well, I totally lied. Fairy Tail is taking the lead with 328 episodes and two movies. The manga finished with 63 volumes. I have a lot of catching up to do.

What I like about this series:

It’s fun. It’s just so much fun. I know a lot of people dislike this show because some of the characters are annoying, and yeah maybe they are but I love these characters. I like the friendships and chaos that follow the Fairy Tail guild. Plus they are wizards! There is magic! And dragons! And talking cats! I can’t really give any concrete reasons why to try and convince you that this show is great but it is and I enjoy it a lot. I always have. I like the storylines and the small arcs with the larger arcs. I think it balances it out and makes it more interesting.

The List so Far:

  • Inuyasha
  • Black Butler
  • Fairy Tail

Thanks for reading! This is just the start of my list of favorites, there are many more. Tell me some of your all time favorite animes/mangas in the comments below!

      1. Hello! Ooo, my favorite has always been Loke. I really loved his story arc and characterization. But NaLu is freaking adorable and I am a huge fan of their friendship through the series.

  1. I was following and liking all three anime you quoted.

Inuyasha I loved to watch it on tv on MTV Anime Night! I don’t know if it was only an Italian things that MTV also dedicated an entire evening once a week to anime.

Kuroshitsuji I liked it until Book of Circus… I found that series really boring and ended up dropping it.

Fairy Tail I read the manga until what I think is the half of it…

    1. Oh! I’m not sure about MTV’s anime night. I watched mine on Adult Swim.
Book of Circus is actually one of my favorite arcs 😅. But I do prefer the manga over the anime version of it.

      2. Adult Swim was on Cartoon Network overnight. I guess it would be the equivalent to your MTV anime night.
Yeah, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. I get that.

  2. Great post! i’ve seen at least some of all 3 animes. the only manga I’ve read is Black Butler, which of course is still being published so I haven’t finished it. I generally find that i go to manga after seeing the anime because the anime often doesn’t finish so i have to read the manga to know how it all ends.
