milk and honey-Rupi Kaur

What words can I use to describe what this book did to me? Within the first three pieces, I found myself in tears. I was faced with all the emotions and feelings I buried years ago.Rupi Kaur writes about falling in love, getting your heart broken, hurting and healing.

Her writing is honest and full of all the hard truths we face in life.

It took me a long time to decide to pick up this book and read it. And I’m sad that I didn’t pick it up sooner. It was a meditative read for me if that makes sense.

The way she has written the book is essentially walking you through a person’s life. It is broken up into four parts of life everyone deals with at one point. The hurting, the loving, the breaking, and the healing. And the illustrations are beautiful additions.

I found this book to be one of the most relatable books I’ve ever read. I felt as if she was writing about parts of my own life. That is the wondrous thing about Rupi Kaur’s writing. She doesn’t fluff it up, she doesn’t hold back. I’ve repeated myself now, but the writing is just so real I can’t forget it.

My favorite piece is:

“your body

is a museum

of natural disasters

can you grasp how

stunning that is”

~Have you read milk and honey?  If yes, what was your favorite piece or illustration?
